Recycling and
sustainability have become important aspects in our society. And given the role of labeling, these
environmental issues are becoming a requirement in our industry. And our
partner, Epson has a new recycling program that may make sense to you.
For North
America, learn more here:
Kevin
Carmichael, Manager, Environmental & Quality Systems, manages the Epson
recycling program in the United States.
When asked about the recycling effort by Epson, Kevin says, “Epson has
had active recycling programs for many years; our corporate, manufacturing,
distribution, and repair sites maintain ISO 14001 Environmental
certifications. The goal of this program
is to be a good community partner, providing products and services in an environmentally
friendly manner. We strive to close the
loop so that products can be reused as much as possible and not be sent to
landfills.
When ask what
does Epson do with the recycled products, Kevin said “Epson America, Inc.
collects the empty ink cartridges and sends them to a recycling partner that
converts the material to an energy resource (an incinerator that uses waste to
produce energy/steam to heat buildings).
The recycled hardware is sent to be disassembled into plastic and metal
for reuse in other products.”
From
my past experience, I understood this environmental effort by Epson is not only
in the United States. This effort
extends to many countries in the work.

And it seems
Epson is collecting a lot of products, keeping them out of landfills:
From the information
inputted into the US-based recycling website, Epson produces a label for
sending hardware to be recycled.
For ink
cartridges, Epson provides an address to send for recycle:
Epson America,
Inc.
Attn: Recycling Center
2350 Stafford Road, Suite 101
Plainfield, IN 46168
When asked
about the future of the Epson recycling effort, Kevin said, “The EPSON
Environmental Vision 2050 is to continue to take actions that will reduce the
environmental impacts of products, services and within supply chains.
Epson is a member of the Responsible Business Alliance dedicated to industry
supply chain corporate responsibility.”
Water Dispersible Label |
In addition to Epson’s recycling effort, we
announced the availability of biodegradable/water dispersible labels:
Based on
previous work before labels, I’m a big supporter of “cradle to grave”
responsibility of products. Epson effort
in recycling is a great step in reducing the environmental impact of their
products.
